Cannabis Legislation Changes in 2023

Recently, there has been much activity across the nation when it comes to cannabis legislation. Laws are changing and definitely trending towards less and less restrictions.

In fact, while recreational marijuan is legal in  42% of the states, both medical and recreational use is legal in 59% of states. Furthermore, while 37 states support medical marijuana, 11 of those also support CBD oil and certain amounts of THC. CBD is, in fact, fully legal in 17 states and conditionally legal in 33 more states.

In light of all this data, experts are predicting more change in the near future, including more support for CBD at both the state and local level. Indeed, experts such as Tyler McFaddenn, board member of BOWL PAC, have come out strongly in support of proactive measures: “as long as we’re doing something about [legalization] now, we will reach it faster than if we stand here twiddling our thumbs, waiting for something to happen . . .”

President Biden also has shared his support, explaining that “sending people to prison for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives and incarcerated people for conduct that has many states no longer prohibit.”

Certainly, upcoming legislation will be something to watch for. Many states such as Florida and New Hampshire are predicted to approve recreational marijuana by 2030, and the federal regulations appear just as imminent. Cannabis legislation in 2023 holds much promise.
