Blogging is a wonderful industry because you’re able to follow your passions, reach other people with similar interests, and if you’re persistent you can even turn it into a full time job. If you’re new to blogging, getting started can feel downright overwhelming, especially because there are so many blogs out there. There are a few things you can do to help ensure your blog has as much success as possible, so if you’re interested in learning about my top 3 tips for starting a blog, keep reading.

Follow Your Passions
One of the biggest mistakes I see new bloggers make is that they try to make a blog about something they think will be profitable but that they have no real interest in. While some people can probably work in this way, for the majority of us we will find ourselves bored of the topic and lacking inspiration after a few weeks or months. It can take quite a while for your blog to pick up momentum, if it ever does, so blogging about a subject that doesn’t interest you will feel draining and defeating. Whether you want to blog about the best fiber optic cable blower, or tips for finding affordable vacation rentals near disney world, just make sure it’s something that interests you. So when your blog is slow to pick up traction, you’ll at least have your passion guiding you forward.

Connect With Other Bloggers
One of the best things you can do early on is to connect with other bloggers. Now you might have to be a bit realistic about this – bloggers who have been in the industry for a long time probably won’t be so thrilled about connecting with a newbie blogger. It’s probably better to focus on bloggers who have a similar amount of experience as you, or some bloggers who are doing slightly better. You can connect with them in so many ways, but the easiest way might be via a contact form on their blog or leaving a comment somewhere. You can also do guest posts on other similar style bloggers pages, which can be great for SEO purposes and traffic. Blogging can be an extremely social industry and forming your own blogger connections can do a lot of good for your success in the long term.

Don’t Give Up
You might be surprised how long it takes for your blog to become profitable, if it ever does. As a general rule, traffic is money, so as long as you can find a way to bring decent traffic to your site, you’ll make money. There are so many different ways you can monetize your blog, but the reality is most blogs don’t make much money, if any, for the first year or two. There are blogs that are attached to commercial websites like sotheby’s realty, which are mostly focused around getting traffic for their website. If you want to create a traditional blog, be generous with how much time you give yourself before you expect to see profit or high amounts of traffic.

If you’re persistent, connect with other bloggers and follow your passions, I’m sure you’ll find a way to be successful with your blog no matter what industry you choose.
