Are you looking to start a fitness blog? You’re not alone. Many bloggers choose to start a blog on the topic of health and fitness for different reasons, but as with most things in life — going through the process is often much harder than it seems.

There are many facets that will need to be considered before you begin – blogging isn’t something you can do haphazardly.

While not every blogger has this same mindset, there are certainly some essentials that every person should consider before choosing to pursue the title of “blogger”.

Right now, you’re one of those people who wants to start a blog on the topic of health and fitness, but feels a little lost about everything that’s involved. And there’s nothing wrong with that!

Start with what you know

The easiest way to start a blog is to just write. But knowing what to write about is a different matter. Some people overcomplicate things and choose different topics to write about, just because it’s what’s trendy. You don’t have to force yourself. Start with what you know, and once you get good at writing consistently, you can let yourself branch out. Overthinking kills dreams.

Figure out your strengths and weaknesses

Since there are many facets you can talk about in your fitness blog, ask yourself what you’re good at and what you aren’t. After all, you can always delegate these things to someone else along the way. Better yet, you can reduce those things you’re not too keen on doing.

What aspects of fitness and blogging are your strengths, and which ones do you need to focus less on? Are you a fitness junkie and foodie at the same time? Perhaps you can talk about eating whatever you want while still having a ripped body. Do you like giving advice to your friends about their macros and how to use a bmi calculator? Then you might do well if you talk about technical fitness topics. Or maybe you like lifting weights, but you live in a tiny studio. Perhaps you can specialize in strength training in small spaces.

Aside from assessing what to write about, knowing your technical strengths and weaknesses when it comes to blogging will come in handy. Know nothing about SEO? There are tons of SEO tools you can use to rank higher. Are you techie? Then you can probably DIY everything, from hosting to getting a domain name to getting your site ready to launch in your CMS (Content Management System) of your choice.

Be consistent and proactive

Too many bloggers throw in the towel too soon, all because they’re not getting the results they wanted as fast as they wanted to. Keep your head down, keep writing, and keep showing up. Consistency is key. If you’re proactive and keep improving in your craft, it’s not a matter of if, but when you’ll become a successful fitness blogger.

Blogging is a two-way street. It’s not just about writing mindlessly. Share your knowledge, but also be open to getting feedback as well. Quantity and consistency is always important, but if your quality doesn’t improve throughout time, you’re only setting yourself up for failure. Eventually, all those efforts will bloom. Perhaps you can even start to monetize!

Technical set-up

Setting up a WordPress blog is something we’ve already covered, along with monetization. However, these are the general steps you need to take:

  1. Get hosting
  2. Install WordPress
  3. Buy a domain
  4. Connect your domain to WordPress
  5. Install a killer theme
  6. Start posting!

And there you have it, a quick guide to help you kickstart your fitness blog. Writing is like a muscle. It needs training, and constant practice. But with time and consistency, you can flex your blog as being one of the go-to resources when it comes to your chosen niche. Happy writing!
